Ythaq is the third series that Marvel has reprinted from French comic company Soleil. The first was Sky Doll and the second was Universal War One. So far I have been enjoying all of these titles–I have to give Marvel credit for trying something different and reprinting these comics.
Ythaq is actually a six issue series as The Forsaken World encompassing the first three parts, and Marvel has already announced the last three, which continues in No Escape. So expect that soon. Ythaq is a science-fiction story set in the future; a luxury space ship carrying passengers has crashed onto a mysterious planet that doesn’t seem to have the same technology as the rest of the universe. In fact the planet Ythaq seems a little primitive at first, but as the survivors soon discover, there seems to have been a lot of space ships crashing onto the planet over the years. There’s more going on than meets the eye.
This is a really fun read. The art is perfect for the story and the story itself has the right amount of action, adventure and humour. It’s a shame that Marvel is reprinting these comics in the standard comic size instead of the larger European format that they original appeared in. But it’s a small price to pay for actually getting English versions of these comics. This is a great series and I can’t wait for the last three installments. (Shane Hnetka)
