(a) Ben Templesmith

Ben Templesmith drawing aliens seems like the perfect match. Especially aliens that smoke, with not one, but two cigarettes. But Templesmith is taking a break from solo projects and has teamed up with. IDW publisher and Editor in Chief, Chris Ryall, who is writing this mini. I haven’t actually read any of Ryall’s work, although it has been plentiful. Shaun of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Beowulf, The Great and Secret Show, Doomed, Gene Simmon’s House of Horrors, Masters of Horror, Transformers Official Movie Prequel, and Zombies vs. Robots and Zombies vs. Robots vs. Amazons. Just to name of few.
The story moves fast. First an abduction and then some probing. A couple years later and the son of the abductee is brought in to say farewell to his father. There seems to be more going on here than meets the eye. There’s one friendly alien, some killer giant robots and the fate of the Earth in the hands of a top secret government organization – kind of sounds familiar. It’s a good thing that Templesmith is on art here because it’s keeping me interested in the book. I think it would have been better to have Templesmith write as well as draw this comic but I’ll give Ryall the benefit of the doubt for now, there is still of couple of issues to go for things to improve.
