Every since Joss Whedon relaunched Buffy: Season Eight, the series had been a force to be reckoned with. It was an entertaining continuation of the TV series and it was written by Whedon himself. But the last five issues or so have been written by fill-in writers and the shine has worn off the comic. The story feels like its dragging and having a month like this with a random one shot doesn’t help matters.
This one-shot is about a teenage boy living in a small town and he’s fascinated by the local vampires. The rest of the story is fairly predictable. In the scheme of things, it’s a fairly unimportant issue. None of the main characters are in it, although the story takes place in the Buffyverse and the odds of ever running into these characters is slim, plus their really uninteresting. I know Whedon is busy now trying to keep his latest TV show from dying but he needs to wrap up Buffy. It was a good idea that’s been dragged out for more than it was worth. (Shane Hnetka)
